# Does Swiftype support wildcard searches?

It’s possible to use the [suggest API endpoint](https://swiftype.com/documentation/autocomplete) to do prefix queries on string fields. For example the query “cat” would match against a string field type that includes the term “category”.

However, we do not have immediate plans to add a more general wildcard search functionality.
